Mandalong Bin Construction

Overview: Underground Bin at Mandalong Colliery for splitting coal feed to two different power stations.

Role: Mechanical Engineer.

Achievements:

  • Continuous Miner Contract Drivage to get to bin location
  • Roadheader Stone drivage to create tunnel between coal seams
  • Raise-bore Ventilation shaft
  • Drill and blast 8m diameter shaft
  • Install one of a kind concrete ring-beam to support the steel bin assembly
  • Oversee assembly manufacture and installation
  • Commission

Impact: This project allowed the mine to regulate the flow of Coal to 2 different locations. Sounds simple, however the award winning design was completed by the team with incredible engineering and accuracy for such a difficult underground construction.
