From the Workshop Floor to Building and Leading a $50 Million Business
Hi, I’m Stephen Brownell, a leader and visionary in the world of businesses. I have proudly developed business that support the world’s major construction and mining companies to build the infrastructure of the future, and my vision is to expand globally utilising technology to benefit communities and the environment.
I come from humble beginnings and my business philosophy is based on respecting the philosophies of my working-class roots and incorporating the lessons learned from building a successful, $50 million business during my career.
As a young service station attendant, I quickly learned the importance of good customer service and helping others, and I have applied this to everything I have done throughout my career.

Over the past two decades my business, CMS Asia Pacific, has developed an enviable reputation for excellence with a footprint that now reaches throughout Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, South Africa, Poland, India, South America and Europe. This growth has been built using excellence, innovation, trust and perseverance as my guiding principles. I am a keen investor in innovation and solutions that make the world a better place.
I have a no-nonsense approach that has led me to form partnerships with respected industry organisations and deliver world-class solutions for projects that have shaped communities. My teams have improved infrastructure provision for communities via Westconnex Sydney, Cross River Rail Brisbane, Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro and City Rail Link in Auckland.
While our work leaves tangible outcomes, our legacy of excellence extends to the learning and development we provide to teams all over the Asia Pacific. I am dedicated to investment in teaching and learning, and the support and career development it provides for many families. This legacy of security for staff, business partners and families is one I am most proud of.

While I am very focussed on business, I have learned the hard way that balancing personal priorities is just as important as the boardroom when it comes to success. I prioritise family time with my wife and daughters, and love escaping on holiday with friends.
